In partnership with Hyperquake, Pixel Fiction designed and created content for Illumina's new Client Engagement Center in San Diego, telling the story of human connection and how genomics technology dramatically improves the lives of people everywhere. Covering 70,000 square feet, the Genomics experience features 8 large-scale LED walls showing 25 story-driven immersive videos and animated murals. Pixel Fiction's role: concept development, design direction, 3d animation, motion graphics, video editing, compositing, color grading and visual effects.

Deep Dive

The installation at the far end of the Experience welcomes visitors with visually striking animations depicting the science of genomics. An interactive touch-screen table encourages exploration, offering a Deep Dive into the world of genomics. (UX table design by Real Art)

Entryway Screens

The Entryway immerses visitors in the atmosphere of the space and sets the tone for the entire Illumina experience. Combining dazzling visuals with content that educates and informs, these screens spark a curiosity in the viewer while highlighting Illumina's innovative and human-oriented vision.

Rotunda, Sea of Faces

As visitors approach the rotunda, the screen comes alive with a "Sea of Faces", representing the emotional human connection to genomics. The wide-screen cinematic presentation reveals the significance behind Illumina's work: improving the lives of all people. The result is a thoughtful, and visually striking experience.

Art installation by Ray King

Illumalens, an art installation by Ray King, features a custom 3D dichroic glass wall mural that transforms throughout the day as sunlight interacts with it. This piece highlights the ever-changing interplay of light and color, important in both the visual medium of art and the microscopic sequencing of DNA.

Resting Mode

Across six large-scale LED walls, a forest unfolds, creating a fully immersive CGI experience that wraps viewers in calm and peaceful surroundings. Designed as a break from the usual programming, it brings a sense of balance and restoration, placing the visitor in the midst of a slowly changing forest.

Rotunda, Success Stories

Two wide-screen curved walls in the Rotunda feature emotionally impactful Success Stories, which highlight the deeply personal stories of patients whose lives have greatly benefited from the impact of genomics as well as the Illumina employees who are the driving forces behind the life-saving work.

Exit

The Exit Screen delivers the final message to visitors, leaving a lasting impression at the end of the Experience. Designed to provide a reflective pause before moving on to the upper floors, visitors are reminded of the important and life-saving role genomics play in everyday lives.
